InQuinox Launches to Tackle Pressing IT Storage Challenges
Company Introduces SD3, the First Appliance for Symantec NetBackup PureDisk Deduplication Software
AUSTIN, Texas – October 14, 2009 – InQuinox, the data storage industry’s most innovative solutions provider for IT’s worst problems, today announced the official launch of the new company and the availability of its first product, a high-performance appliance for Symantec NetBackup PureDisk deduplication software. Founded by data storage veterans Ray Schafer and Jack McKinney and led by Brad Hargett, all formerly of Symantec/Veritas, InQuinox tackles the most pressing IT storage challenges facing CIOs today: managing the complexity and costs caused by data proliferation.
InQuinox Plug-n-Play Approach Helps IT Avoid Costly, Unsustainable Reactive Crises Management
Determined to help IT organizations avoid reactive crises management, which is inefficient, costly and unsustainable, InQuinox is committed to developing the best products for the worst problems. With a depth of industry knowledge, technical expertise and tenacity, InQuinox pursues market opportunities swiftly to fill voids in partner product lines with an eye towards solving the seemingly intractable problems first. The SD3 appliance, the company’s first commercial product, fulfills that vision by providing a high-performance “Plug ‘n Play” platform for any size organization that wants to implement PureDisk deduplication software in data centers and remote offices.
“We’re a company of data protection experts, who have ‘lived and breathed’ data storage and protection since the industry’s infancy,” said Brad Hargett, InQuinox’s CEO. “We have a firm grasp on what problems IT organizations are grappling to solve. It is from the firsthand experience that we develop the best products for IT’s worst problems. With the interest we’ve generated with corporations and government agencies, we know we’re on the right track with the SD3 appliance.”
New Appliance Provides High-Performance, Green Deduplication Solution
SD3 is the first purpose-built appliance for Symantec NetBackup users who want to use PureDisk deduplication software in data centers or remote offices to minimize their data storage footprint and save on energy and maintenance costs. SD3 simplifies the deployment of a unified hardware and software PureDisk solution and provides a high-performance, scalable, ready-to-use, green deduplication solution, where none existed. Designed to deliver predictable and consistent high-end deduplication performance by experts in PureDisk software and deduplication technology, SD3 outperforms the competition 2:1 in benchmark tests.
“We designed the SD3 for PureDisk performance and to simplify deployment,” said Ray Schafer, InQuinox co-founder and CTO. “To minimize the requirement for professional services and to improve the customer experience, it comes installed with PureDisk and is configured specifically for each customer’s IT environment. We take ease of deployment a step further with free onsite installation to remove the complexity and pain from the deduplication implementation process. For customers who want a completely ‘hands-off’ approach, we will also manage the SD3 appliance, including application upgrades, remote monitoring and remote maintenance.”
InQuinox Partners with Corvalent and Atrato for High-Quality and Availability, Global Reach
InQuinox chose Corvalent, a leading designer and manufacturer of long-life x86 platforms for industrial applications, to supply the motherboard for SD3 and manufacture the appliance. It selected Atrato, a leading provider of intelligent, adaptive tiered storage, so that it could produce the highest performing, most reliable and greenest deduplication appliance possible. Both suppliers also maintain offshore manufacturing facilities, enabling InQuinox to deliver SD3 appliances to international customers much faster.
“We selected our technology partners for their technical expertise, history of producing high quality, high availability components and global reach,” said Hargett. “Together with our strategic partners, we can more quickly bring to the global market products that out-perform those produced by larger well-established, yet less nimble, technology companies.”
InQuinox’s convenient “Storage on Demand” remote upgrade capability makes it easy to scale SD3 to meet expanding deduplication needs quickly by simply licensing more capacity. Moreover, SD3 appliances are self-healing. They use the same Atrato disk array technology installed in satellites circling the Earth, and can withstand catastrophic failure and will continue to work. SD3 appliances are warranted to keep running a minimum of three years uninterrupted with zero maintenance.
Customers Save 75% Real Estate Costs, Reduce Power and Cooling Expenses by 50-80%
SD3 appliances are highly energy efficient, using less than half the power of other deduplication appliances. Built around the industry’s most energy-efficient storage drives, SD3 draws fewer than 5 watts per terabyte and 15 BTUs per hour per terabyte. InQuinox customers can save up to 75 percent in real estate costs and realize a 50 to 80 percent reduction in power and cooling expenses. SD3 also eliminates wasted expenses derived from over provisioning to further reduce IT operating costs.
The SD3 product line includes four models designed for both remote office environments and data centers of any size. These models range from 1.3 terabytes of useable local storage capacity for remote offices and small to medium business to high-capacity modular systems with up to 96 terabytes and higher of usable local storage capacity for large enterprise data centers.
The SD3 appliance can be ruggedized to withstand dramatic temperature variations, strong vibrations and high altitude, by special order. SD3 Models 32T and 96T are available as high availability (HA) systems, and are fully integrated, pre-installed and pre-configured with Veritas Cluster Server (VCS).
“Symantec has great backup and deduplication technology in NetBackup and PureDisk, but no complete solution,” said Arun Taneja, founder & consulting analyst for the Taneja Group. “InQuinox’s SD3 appliance brings PureDisk to life and takes away customer pain in a tangible way.”
The SD3 appliance comes installed with Symantec NetBackup PureDisk deduplication software and is available now from InQuinox and its authorized resellers. More information is located at www.inquinox.com.
